Boiler Answers is free to read. This page explains, in plain English, how the site earns money and what that does and does not mean for the advice you get.

The short version

Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and go on to buy a boiler or book an installation, we may earn a commission. You pay exactly the same price as you would have paid anyway. Our partners have no say in what we write, and no article is written to push you towards a purchase you do not need.

An affiliate link is a link to a company's website that identifies Boiler Answers as the site that sent you. If you complete a purchase, the company pays us a fee. The fee comes out of the company's marketing budget, not out of your pocket - the price you see on the partner's site is the same whether you arrive from our link, from a search engine or by typing the address yourself.

Who our partners are

We work through the Awin affiliate network, which manages the tracking and the payments between publishers like us and advertisers. Our partners are UK boiler and heating installers:

Partner What they offer Network
BOXT New boilers with a fixed-price online quote including installation Awin
Heatable New boilers with a fixed-price online quote Awin
Glow Green Boiler and heat pump installation Awin
iHeat Boiler and heat pump installation Awin

Not every partner is active at all times. We only show a partner's link or quote box when we have an active relationship with them; otherwise the article simply links to another part of our own site. This table is updated when a partnership starts or ends.

We do not publish discount or voucher codes, and we do not have any partnerships with boiler insurance, boiler cover or finance providers.

How much we earn

Our partners typically pay a fixed fee for each completed installation that came through one of our links. The fee is only paid once the boiler has been fitted. We do not earn anything when you simply click a link, and we do not earn anything if you get a quote and decide not to go ahead.

Does this change our recommendations?

No. Here is how we keep the two separate:

  • Partners never see articles before publication and cannot ask for changes.
  • Comparisons include companies we have no relationship with. Our guides to boiler brands, choosing an installer and fixed-price online boiler deals cover the whole market, not just our partners.
  • We tell you to compare. Every article that mentions a partner's quote also tells you to get at least one quote from a local Gas Safe registered engineer and compare them.
  • We say "do not replace" when that is the answer. Our repair or replace guide exists precisely to stop people buying a boiler they do not need.
  • We only repeat claims the partner makes itself - for example that a quote is fixed price - and we do not invent discounts or "best price guarantees".
  • No paid placements. Nobody can buy a position in a list or a favourable review.

Affiliate links on Boiler Answers point to an address on our own site first, in the form /go/boxt. When you click one:

  1. Our server records the time, the article you were reading and the position of the link on the page. No personal data is stored - no name, no IP address, no account.
  2. You are redirected (an ordinary HTTP 302 redirect) to the partner's website through the Awin network.
  3. Awin sets a cookie in your browser so that, if you buy within its tracking window (typically 30 days), the sale can be attributed to Boiler Answers. See our cookie policy and privacy policy for details.

Every affiliate link carries the HTML attribute rel="sponsored" (together with nofollow and noopener), which tells search engines and browsers that it is a commercial link. We use this consistently so there is no ambiguity about which links are commercial.

Display advertising

We also show a small number of adverts through Google AdSense. These are labelled as advertisements, placed in fixed positions in articles, and never placed directly next to our own partner boxes. The adverts are selected by Google, not by us, and an advert appearing on Boiler Answers is not a recommendation from us. Advertising cookies are only set if you give consent through the banner shown on your first visit; you can change your choice at any time, as explained in our cookie policy.

UK advertising rules

Boiler Answers follows the UK Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) and Committee of Advertising Practice (CAP) requirements for affiliate marketing and for making commercial content obviously identifiable:

  • Every article that contains an affiliate link carries a disclosure at the top of the page, before the content, not hidden in a footer.
  • Affiliate links are consistently marked as sponsored.
  • Advertisements are visually distinct from editorial content.
  • We do not make claims about partners' products that the partners do not make themselves.
